[ Something about the way Zemo kisses him in broad daylight, gingerly guiding him by the chin, makes him feel like he could float right out of his boots. When their lips part, Bucky takes a moment to blink the daze away. His voice is a low rumble. ]
Now see, that's the kind of stuff that gets a gal all fluttery.
[It isn't as if there's anyone around them that Zemo cares about seeing them -- and he's never been inclined to shame anyway. He gives a playful pat to Bucky's cheek at the comment before he takes a step back.]
...right. [ god he feels like all Zemo would need to do is crook a finger, and Bucky would just float right after him.
How far gone is he?
Trying to square his shoulders and not look so dazed, Bucky clears his throat as the car pulls up. ]
Oeznik, my man! Good to see ya. Stylish as always.
[ A bit of irreverence to throw off the scent as Bucky claps the man on his arm. Of course Oeznik holds Zemo's door but Bucky doesn't wait for such a gesture before clambering in.
"Has my Baron exchanged one captor for another?" he asks in clipped Sokovian. ]
[There's something gratifying in seeing the reactions he gets from James - a tiny reassurance to negate the little voice that tells him this is a foolish move.
Getting involved with this particular man, opening himself up in uncomfortably vulnerable ways.
It's easy to push aside when he sees Oeznik though -- his familiar friend. He greets with an easy smile on his lips, exchanges brief greetings before he goes to slip in the back. Eyes trail towards Bucky at the question, thoughtfully. "It remains to be seen... So far, he has been a rather welcome relief from the cell."
He's not entirely sure if it will get a stern look from the older man, a reminder to not let his guard too far down. But lying to Oeznik has never been terribly appealing.]

[ Oeznik gives a suspicious look, something crossed with skepticism if the narrowing of his eyes is any indication; the man knows better than to question further, though he clearly has reservations. "Where shall I take you and Sergeant Barnes?"
Bucky leans in to confess something, his own voice a soft murmur: ]
I don't do high-end, so I hope you know some brand names.
["I need clothes since I will not longer be wearing prison garb only." He trusts that Oeznik will take them somewhere that will have the quality he expects. He's not worried about that in the slightest.
Part of him is rather eager to be out of prison garb or the few items he managed to reclaim here and there.
He turns to Bucky, giving a bit of a smile.]
Don't worry, James. You'll look very sharp by the end of this.

Of course Oeznik has noticed the stray item poached from Bucky's closet, but is far too polite to comment on its suitability for his master's sartorial presentation. He does switch to English, ostensibly for Bucky's benefit, adding, "Will Sergeant Barnes require additional wardrobe as well?" ]
I think the Baron here has decided to give me what the kids call a glow-up.

[ Bucky cuts a sly glance to Zemo before scanning the streets they pass. It's so easy to forget that Zemo was locked up for five or more years, only being able to wear plain clothing and the occasional hoodie provided to him. Certainly nothing fancy or bespoke. It'll be interesting to see what he chooses for himself outside of a mission, when he doesn't have to make room for a gun holster underneath a heavy coat. ]
How fancy is this dinner-- are we talking nice, or tuxedo nice?
[Although the thought is rather appealing, now that Bucky has brought it up... he's certainly filing it away for now.]

[ The memory of breakfast in Riga--specifically the conversation at their table--comes flashing back into Bucky's mind. How he'd described that floaty, almost autopilot-like haze and the distress such an unconscious reaction had caused him.
Then the memory of willingly slipping into it on the plane a few hours later, only for Zemo to notice and keep him afloat during.
Those thoughts are interrupted by Oeznik, replying to Zemo with a wry grin: "Of course, my Baron. It has been far too long since I have had the opportunity to provide a lavish--and I assume private--dinner for yourself and guests. I will see to it while you shop." ]
Used to throwing parties? Or are we talking business stuff?
[That memory-- it's still one he quite likes to think back on.
In part, at least. Zemo doesn't quite do well with... exposing weakness, vulnerability to others and he'd done quite a bit of that over food, same as Bucky had. But overall, it had been an... enlightening conversation.
He wonders briefly what this dinner will bring them, if anything.

To quell his curiosity, I would set aside small portions of the catering for him and perhaps also a bit of gossip. All in preparation for his eventual inheritance, of course."
Oeznik, for his steely demeanor, is quite openly fond of Zemo, and seems to want to keep him as near as possible. Perhaps Zemo is the only family this old man has left too. And naturally, his hand has been in things as benign as family matters...and otherwise. It's an open secret that the timely dispatch of the remaining Flag Smashers was the doing of Oeznik.
Bucky, amused by this insight into Helmut's life as a boy, grins ear to ear. ]
[There's a slight narrowing to Zemo's eyes, a purse to his lips that looks slightly put-off by the old man speaking of his childhood -- though it hardly seems to last long before he's shaking his head at the memory.
Oeznik is truly more family than servant -- one that he seems content to keep near as he can in return.]
I've always had an inquisitive nature, I suppose. You'll have to blame Oeznik for always indulging me in it, even when my father wished otherwise.
[ "It was for the best. Your father benefited greatly from your shrewd insight. My English is not as good, Sergeant Barnes; I believe 'gossip' may have given the wrong impression." Oeznik seems to sense Zemo's displeasure rather than see it, and offers a soft hum. "Perhaps you will forgive this old man for a bit of wistful memory at your expense." ]
Oh no, do go on. I'm having the best mental image of a little Baron in short pants, peeking around the corner to eavesdrop on the grownups.
[That was exactly how it was, of course. Curious little boy, eavsdropping into affairs he shouldn't have most likely. He shakes his head, a slight smile tugging at his lips.]
I wouldn't deny you the chance to reminisce. [Even Oeznik is doing so at his expense.]
Although it's a bit unfair... No one is around to tell what you may have been like as a hild, James.
[ When Zemo protests, Bucky knows that's exactly how it was. And he chuckles over it. Little Baron, precociously insisting he knows better than the foolish foreign investor, nearly coming apart at the seams to interject as much.
It's quite nice that Bucky can somewhat draft off of Oeznik lightly roasting Zemo and ally them a bit. At least he won't wake up with his torso in pieces. ]
Well, maybe one or two. But they're all old and senile by now. [ and Steve is on the moon ] I was a good kid. Didn't get into much trouble, always looking out for Steve's scrawny ass and keeping an eye out on my sisters.
[There's a slight smile as Zemo's eyes drift towards James, sizing him up a bit. He can believe he likely was a good kid, honestly. Perhaps a bit of trouble here and there, no more than other children.]
[It's not easy to miss that look in Bucky's eyes, the sadness that must come along with knowing that your siblings are either gone or lived entire lives without you.]
[That ship has certainly sailed. The idea of another family, another potential lost... it isn't quite worth it and he has had many years to make peace with the Zemo name dying out, along with everything else he may have held dear.
But it's not the time for such morose thoughts.]
Ah-- what do you think, James? [He gives a teasing smile.] Do you think I would have been charming as a child an befriended the local children or do you think I would have been too spoiled for any such thing?
I think you did whatever suited you...when you bothered to interact with them.
[ Zemo comes from wealth, and that brings a certain silver-spoon upbringing and mentality. But he also hails from a largely war-torn region of Europe, where small villages and tight-knit communities are the norm.
Zemo likely spent much of his time indoors with tutors, but learned to interact more in secondary school or university (if he went). ]
